2020-2021 Itinerary:

Day 1 (Tuesday)                     MADRID / ALIVIA / SALAMANCA / PORTO

Depart from Madrid and drive to Avila, a city known for its well preserved medieval wall. Take a short stop to visit the wall and Avila’s old town. Next continue to Salamanca for some free time to explore this University city and soak up its heritage of Humanity, great architectural and artistic wealth. Later depart for the Portuguese border and continue into Porto. Accommodation.
 

Day 2 (Wednesday)               PORTO

Today, enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of Porto, including the Cathedral, Stock Exchange building and Santa Clara church. Afterwards, enjoy a different perspective of the city from the river Douro aboard a cruise boat. Discover the heritage of this wine region at a Port Wine Cellars with a Port wine tasting. The rest of day is at leisure. Accommodation. (B)

 

Day 3 (Thursday)                   PORTO / COIMBRA / FATIMA

This morning, depart for Coimbra, home to one of the oldest universities in Europe and the birthplace of Fado. Enjoy free time before continuing to Fatima. Known as the centre of Christian Faith and a World Pilgrimage Sanctuary with its impressive Basilica and the Cova da Iria, the place where the Virgin Mary appeared. The Chapel of the Apparitions, heart of the sanctuary, with the tombs of the three shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. Accommodation. (B)
Evening optional: It may be possible to attend the Fatima Sanctuary Candle Procession.
 

Day 4 (Friday)                        FATIMA / BATALHA / NAZARE / ALCOBACA / LISBON

Farewell Fatima, and drive to the Monastery of Batalha, a masterpiece of Gothic and Manueline style and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Next visit the picturesque fishing town of Nazaré, enjoy some free time before continuing to Alcobaça with its Gothic church and Cistercian monastery, whose origins date back to the 12th century. Later continue to Lisbon. Accommodation. (B)
Evening optional: A traditional dinner and performance of traditional Portuguese music “Fado”.
 

Day 5 (Saturday)                    LISBON

Take a morning sightseeing tour of the ancient Olissipo, drive through its main squares and avenues, visit the Tower of Belem, Jerónimos Monastery, Coach Museum, Monument to the Discoverers, Marquis of Pombal Square and Liberty Avenue. Afternoon at leisure. Maybe explore the Alfama Quarter or the old city, with its old buildings nested in narrow twisting streets “Ruas”, full of colour. Accommodation. (B)
 

Day 6 (Sunday)                      LISBON / CACERES / CORDOBA

Today leave Lisbon for Cordoba, en-route stop in Caceres to visit this ancient city. Old Town Caceres has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its historic architecture; a blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance styles. Walk through its Old Town and Plaza Mayor during this short stop. Afterwards, continue on towards Cordoba, once the capital of the Caliphate. Accommodation. (B,D)
 

Day 7 (Monday)                      CORDOBA / SEVILLE

Visit Cordoba with an impressive tour of its 8th century Mosque (entrance included) and other sites that will ease our mind and spirit strolling through its narrow winding streets of the Jewish Quarter. In the afternoon, after a short two hour drive arrive in Seville. Accommodation. (B,D)
 

Day 8 (Tuesday)                     SEVILLE

Morning panoramic city tour visiting: the exterior of the Cathedral (the second largest in the Catholic world after St. Peters in Rome), Santa Cruz quarter (a natural scenario of “Carmen” as well as a precisely where the myth of “Don Juan” developed), Maria Luisa Park and Plaza de España. Afternoon at leisure for you to discover exclusive views and unique flavours of this city. Accommodation. (B,D) Optional: Flamenco tour.
 

Day 9 (Wednesday)               SEVILLE / RONDA / COSTA DEL SOL

Today, drive south passing typical Andalucian villages to arrive in Ronda; free time to admire this town of Celtic origin and the marvellous view of the gorge and mountain range. In the afternoon continue on to the Costa del Sol. Accommodation. (B,D)
 

Day 10 (Thursday)                 COSTA DEL SOL

Day 11 (Friday)                       COSTA DEL SOL / TARIFA / TANGIER / CASABLANCA

Drive along the picturesque tourist route of Costa del Sol to arrive at Algeciras or Tarifa, take a short ferry ride across the strait of Gibraltar towards Africa. Arrive in Morocco, disembark, clear customs and continue by coach southwards to Casablanca, current industrial and economic capital and the most populated city housing a 10% of the country population. Time at leisure. Accommodation. (B,D)
 

Day 12 (Saturday)                  CASABLANCA / MARRAKECH

This morning, take a panoramic city tour including Anfa Boulevard, Nations square, residential areas and visit the Grand Hassan II mosque (exterior only). Later depart for Marrakech, capital of the South, located within an extensive oasis between the Atlas Mountains and the pre-desert area. Enjoy a city sightseeing tour, including the Koutoubia Tower, twin tower of the Giralda in Seville, Saadines Tombs and Bay Palace. In the afternoon walk around the medina, souks and the magic Jma El Fna Square, which is packed with fortune tellers, snake tamers, acrobats, dancers, all making the centre of the city an open air theatre that requires the participation of the audience. Day 13 (Sunday)                    MARRAKECH / RABAT / MEKNES / FES

Today, depart early for Rabat, diplomatic and administrative capital of Morocco. Visit the Royal Palace (exterior only), the Mausoleum of Mohamed V and the Hassan Tower. Continue to the Imperial City of Meknes, visit the Walls of Bab el Mansour and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the only mosque in all of Morocco where non-Muslims are allowed. Later arrive in Fes. Day 14 (Monday)                    FES

Enjoy a morning city tour of the most ancient and monumental of the Imperial Cities visiting the 7 gates of the Royal Palace, Jewish Quarters or Mellah, gate of Bab Bou Jelous and walking tour of the “Medina” (Old City), declared World Heritage Site. Afternoon free. Accommodation. (B,D) Optional dinner with show.
 

Day 15 (Tuesday)                   FES / TANGER / TARIFA / COSTA DEL SOL

Today, farewell Morocco, depart for Tangier port and return by ferry to Spain. Upon arrival at Tarifa continue to your hotel on the Costa del Sol. Accommodation. (B,D)
 

Day 16 (Wednesday)             COSTA DEL SOL

Day 17 (Thursday)                 COSTA DEL SOL / GRANADA

Depart for the city of Granada, last stronghold of the Moorish Kingdoms until 1492. Visit the world famous La Alhambra (entrance included) and Generalife Gardens that have inspired several authors with its sound and sights, such as “Tales of the Alhambra” by W. Irving. Accommodation. (B,D) Optional: Gipsy Flamenco show at Sacromonte quarter.
 

Day 18 (Friday)                       GRANADA / TOLEDO / MADRID

Drive northward toward the impressive Imperial city of Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the “City of the Three Cultures” for the cultural influences of Christians, Muslims and Jews. Toledo has great artistic beauty and buildings in various styles including Arabian, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque. Take a short guided tour of this historical old town through its narrow streets and then a visit of the a famous “Damasquinado” (gold and silver inlaying in iron) factory. Continue to Madrid.
